Reyez opens the album with the lyric “I should’ve fucked your friends”, before delving into the details of an unhealthy arrangement that made her build a home out of heartbreak.Įven the softer-sounding Reyez that sings on Intruders is laced with battle instincts. The type of love that Reyez projects exists only in conjunction with suffering - it’s volatile, messy, and there are no attempts made to smooth out the rough edges, they exist for show and tell. Love is a subject that circulates throughout the album, but if you’re after a picture-perfect version, it doesn’t live here. Authenticity is undoubtedly paramount to Reyez and this is precipitable in her refusal to sugarcoat any of her material, it’s the raw, unfiltered expression that is the defining characteristic of her music. She also received two 2017 iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards nominations for Best New Canadian Artist and Fan Fave Video for "Shutter Island".
